Head Coach Greg Woods will have been heartened by his team’s second half performance after they were blown away by Chinnor’s expansive attacking prowess that saw the English National Division side race to an 8-try, 48-7 lead after 40 minutes. Half time references to cricket scores and speculation regarding the scoreboard’s capacity to record powers of 10 beyond 1 proved unnecessary, though. Ebbw defended well after the break, preventing the visitors regaining the upper hand and putting together some excellent moves of their own. The second half was a 5-all tie, with Ashley Sweet scoring for Ebbw to finish a patient and powerful episode by the pack.
Many thanks to referee Mr Bessant and his touch judges. Congratulations to Chinnor on a comprehensive win, and best wishes for the coming season; we’ll be keeping an eye on your twitter feed!
Ebbw Vale now focus on Saturday’s trip west to take on Llanelli as the biggest Premiership season ever (so far) begins.
