The Steelmen were hoping to win consecutive matches for the first time this season, following the excellent win at RGC last time out. With Swansea snd Ebbw at the wrong end of the table, this was forecast to be tight, but Ebbw had much the better of the first half, defending comfortably and leading 10-3 through an Ethan Phillips try and a conversion and penalty by the reliable Dan Haymond. Swansea were a changed outfit after the break and edged the fierce forward battle to set up Gareth Rees for a try, converted by James Davies. The outside half added his second penalty to edge the maroon coloured All Whites to their first win at ECP since February 2009.

Positive news for Ebbw was the returns from injury of Cameron Regan, Luke Garrett and Dai Jones. Ethan Phillips was Man of the Match, with Paul King, Joe Franchi and debutant Ben Fry also prominent, and Dan Haymond his usual, classy self.
Next Saturday’s home fixture against bottom side Bridgend is set to be a big one.
