The Steelmen completed the season’s double over Bargoed with a 34-10 win at Eugene Cross Park. Although Bargoed took an early lead with a try, Ebbw fought back with scores from Lloyd Evans and Paul King, whose strong running was a threat throughout. Although Rhys Jones was strangely out of sorts with the boot early on, his penalty got the scoreboard moving. Ebbw led 13-5 at half time.
After a puzzling episode that saw the referee, Mr Morris, award Ebbw a penalty try, then change his mind – presumably with good reason -Rhys Jones burst over for try that he converted. Almost immediately, Dafydd Howells chased and collected a kick, to score the bonus point try aat the posts, which Jones improved for 27-5. Darren Humphreys pulled one back for the visitors, but Lloyd Evans rounded the game off with his second try, running in great support of Seren y Gêm, Kristian Parker’s charge. Jones again converted and the game ended with Ebbw 34-10 winners. The Ebbw squad was:
