Bargoed weren’t phased by the switch of venue, emerging as winners at Eugene Cross Park – though the game was not as one-sided as the score suggests, with Ebbw’s young combination team putting up a determined performance and often thwarting their more experienced opponents.
Ebbw’s tries came from Joel Harries and Stefan Thomas, and Will Holley added a conversion and a penalty.
Many thanks are due, once again, to the clubs who have granted permits allowing their players to represent the Steelmen in the Fosters Challenge Cup this season.
The Ebbw team was:
Will Holley, Ryan Evans (Ynysddu), Srdan Majkic, Dale Tucker (Newport Saracens), Stefan Thomas (Ynysddu); Liam Jones, Macauley Griffiths (Ynysybwl), Joel Harries (Dragons), Jonny Bowen, Rob Sevenoaks (captain); Joe Bartlett, Adam Lane (Brynmawr); Jack Goodey, Dawid Rubasniak (Dragons), Michael Preece (Risca).
Bench: Jamie Tucker (Newbridge), Lloyd Bridges (Penallta), Lewis Morham (Rogerstone), Daniel Crandon (Abertillery / Blaenau Gwent), Ian Prossar (Ynysddu), Ryan Arnold (Ynysddu), Josh Reid (Dragons), Curtis Harris (Hafodyrynys).
