October 29th: Ebbw Vale 10 Llandovery 20

HOME > October 29th: Ebbw Vale 10 Llandovery 20

When these teams met at Church Bank in May, in the semifinal of the Principality Premiership playoffs, they served up a cracker of a game. On Saturday, at an autumn-hued ECP, it was more of a damp squib, though nobody could justifiably argue with the result.

Llandovery’s outside half, Jack Maynard, had a good day off the tee, kicking 15 of his side’s points, including the conversion of Lee Rees’s first half try, that helped build a 17-0 lead.

Ebbw had their hands full with their opponents everywhere apart from the scrum. It is understandable that the line out is not presently functioning with its usual metronomic precision, given the enforced absence of Messrs Williams and Sweet, and others will learn and develop, given time, patience and practice. When it did work, it led to a perfect Catch’n’Kynes. Josh Lewis’s boot gave Ebbw hope at 10-20 as the home side at last brought urgency to their play, but Llandovery defended with skill and spirit to keep the Steelmen at bay.

Finally, here is a question asked out of genuine curiosity: on two occasions, a player knocked the ball forward but gathered it before it hit the ground. One was allowed (and led directly to a try) and the other was not. What was the difference? Answers marked “It wasn’t a Shingler moment, but it’s still interesting” to webmaster@evrfc.co.uk please.

Roedd yn brynhawn siomedig iawn am chwaraewyr a chefnogwyr Glynebwy, ar ôl buddugoliaeth wych ym Mhontypridd nos Fawrth.

Roedd y Porthmyn yn fwy creadigol, ac yn llwyddo rhwystro Glynebwy rhag datblygu eu gêm nhw. Cafodd maswr Llanymddyfri, Jack Maynard, brynhawn da o ran cicio, yn sgorio 15 pwynt, yn cynnwys trosi cais eithaf ffodus Lee Rees. Doedd dim ymateb gan Wyr y Dur yn yr hanner cyntaf, ac 17-0 oedd y sgôr ar yr egwyl.

Roedd gan Lynebwy mwy o awch yn yr ail hanner, ond, yn anffodus, doedd y llinell ddim yn gweithio fel mae’n arfer gwneud, a chollwyd cyfleoedd… ond, o’r diwedd, daeth “Catch’n’Kynes” perffaith, a throsiad Josh Lewis yn gwneud y sgôr yn 10-20, ac yn dod â gobaith i’w dîm. Pob clod i’r Porthmyn, amddiffynon nhw’n ddewr i gael gafael yn eu mantais, ac ennill y prynhawn.

Bydd rhaid i Glynebwy berfformio’n well llawer iawn yn Abertawe, nos Iau, os ydyn nhw am sicrhau pwyntiau hollbwysig!
